Motherread/Fatherread
Motheread/Fatheread works to build parents' skills in both reading and parenting, using reading and discussion of children's literature. The program has grown in Utah so that more than 300 professional staff members and volunteers are reaching nearly 6,000 children and about 3,000 families each year. Motheread/Fatheread classes are now held in 28 of Utah's 29 counties.
Reading and Discussion Programs—UHC loans sets of books to book groups meeting in public places and, upon request, provides a discussion leader to help discussion get started. We have over 100 titles—nonfiction and fiction—in sets of 15 or 20. For more information, call Marie Fuertes, 801-359-9670.
Great Salt Lake Book Festival—Each October, UHC invites writers from around the country to speak to audiences in Salt Lake City and in towns around the state. Participants engage in book discussions, and make books with book artists from the J. Willard Marriott Library Book Arts program. The event is free and open to readers of all ages. To volunteer for the 2007 Book Festival, please call Rebecca Batt at 801-359-9670.
